Toys
How many of you knew the following ingredients are commonly found in pet toys and chews?
Phthalates – a large class of chemicals to toys made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) to soften and make it more flexible. Most toys are not labelled with the ingredients they are made from. Chemicals such as isopropylparaben, butylparaben, isobutylparaben, methylparaben, ethylparaben in these toys can seep out into the mucous membranes of the mouth the more our pet plays with it. Resulting damage to their liver and kidneys.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is relatively hard plastic often filled with softeners, commonly called vinyl. The chlorine produces dioxins, which are dangerous as they cause cancer and immune system damage. They’re also associated with reproductive and development problems.
BPA is widely used in a variety of plastics and also found in the lining of canned food of both pet and human. This causes disruptions to the metabolism and upsets the endocrine system. It is also a hormone disruptor for us and our pets.
Formaldehyde – in rawhide chews, a huge one to avoid
Lead, chromium and cadmium, cobalt, bromine etc… all damaging to the health of your beloved companion.
There are many more I could list that are used in the manufacturing of our pet toys. Contact me if you’d like to know what’s in your pets toys.
