Give Your Dog A Foot Bath.
Your dog’s paws are like little traps that lock in dirt, picking up all kinds of allergens, chemicals and other pollutants. Keep in mind that dogs only sweat from their noses and the pads of their feet. So those damp little pads can collect a really heavy load of irritants.
Often you can dramatically reduce the amount of time your dog spends licking and chewing their feet with a fast, easy foot soak. Depending on the size of your dog, you can use the bathroom sink or bathtub.
Fill the sink or tub with a few cementers of water, enough to cover those paws. Use an organic iodine solution that is non irritating, safe, non-toxic, antifungal, and antibacterial. Dilute the iodine with water to the colour of ice tea (medium brown). If it is a bit dark, add more water.
Simply let your dog stand in the solution to two to five minutes. You don’t have to do anything to their paws, the solution will do the work for you. If your dog is nervous about being in water and talking or singing doesn’t calm them down enough for the soak, offer treats. Then pat dry and go! Repeat every two the three days.
If you’re having problems with your dog itching and chewing it paws, contact me as I can help. There is a slight difference in the rash from environmental toxins as apposed to dietary allergies. Always happy to help and pass on my knowledge to benefit you and your pet.
